Course Aim
The course focuses on county lines and the use of children by organised crime groups to supply class A controlled drugs.
MAGE will provide you with knowledge and understanding of the scale of criminal exploitation of children, the signs and indicators that children are being exploited, and how they are recruited and used by adult perpetrators to commit crime.
Through videos, case studies and interactive sessions you will understand the elements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, in particular human trafficking legislation, the S45 defence (non-punishment of victims) and the ancillary orders within the act that can be used to protect children and target organised crime groups (OCG’s) and individuals who use children to commit crime.
You will be given practical guidance in how to investigate the status of an individual who may have committed a crime. You will be provided with an understanding of the relevant partners to engage with, both for investigative and safeguarding purposes and you will be given training on the National Referral Mechanism and when and how to refer.

- To identify children and young people at risk of being recruited into gangs
- To describe the signs and indicators that children and young people are being exploited for criminal purposes
- To explain the elements of the modern slavery act including the S45 defence, that can be used to protect children and bring perpetrators to justice
- To describe the investigative obligations under law to ensure the status of an individual (suspect or victim) is fully explored
- To describe the agencies responsible for safeguarding and their roles
- To explain the national referral mechanism process and how to make a referral
