Course Aim
Through audio visual material, case studies and interactive sessions MAGE will provide you with knowledge and understanding of the scale of child sexual exploitation, the signs and indicators, and the methods used to groom and exploit young people.
The course will highlight offences under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, in particular human trafficking legislation, and the ancillary orders within the act, that can be used to protect children and target individuals and organised crime groups (OCG’s) who seek to exploit children sexually.
The content will focus on the engagement challenges with the most vulnerable, and the necessity to set professional boundaries and agreements to maintain professional relationships through what can be extensive and lengthy investigation and court processes. The course will help you manage reluctant victims, victims as suspects, collusion, omission and discrepancies in evidential accounts preventing the ‘non credible victim’ analogy. It will focus on preparing robust strategies that will strengthen the approaches but help manage the level of risk to both the investigation, professionals and critically the victims. The course will discuss some of the challenges faced during one of the largest UK historic investigations into Child Sexual Exploitation in Rotherham and how the specialist dedicated team of officers successfully managed not just the complexities of the victims’ needs, but those of their own and the self-care required to sustain practice in such challenging environments.
You will understand the National Referral Mechanism – the UKís identification and support process for victims of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking including how to refer a potential victim.
